Five oil companies to watch in the Eagle Ford at $46 per barrel

San Antonio Business Journal

Even with crude oil prices trading in the $46 per barrel range, there is still new drilling activity taking place in the vast Eagle Ford Shale region just south of San Antonio.

Allen Gilmer with the Austin-based oil field intelligence firm DrillingInfo said some companies stand apart from the pack when you look at their production numbers.

San Antonio-based GulfTex Energy does not have the number of wells that EOG Resources and Marathon Oil have but Gilmer said the company has Grade B acreage. Their wells are seeing two or three times the amount of production when compared to their competitors.

Railroad Commission figures show that GulfTex applied for 18 drilling permits in Karnes County and one permit for Gonzales County since January. Out of those drilling permits, four of them are from this month where two have already been approved and two are pending review.

Gilmer said GulfTex saw 900,000 barrels for the first six months on two of their wells from this year.

"These guys are knocking it out of the park," Gilmer said.
